At the end of the day The Meze Empyrean is an impressive piece of equipment. From my own demos and home sessions with both Headphones Id say the Empyrean is a more flexible option in terms of amps and pairing - both will work fine with almost any amp but the Empyrean will sound better with a broader range of setups - Dont get me wrong you can plug the Utopia into anything and it will be fine but to be truly amazing careful. Its the typical SP1000 character with a balanced wide presentation and a neutral tuning with excellent extension. The Meze Empyrean is an impressive headphone that has been masterfully designed and constructed in the service of the end-userthe customera true rarity in this day and age but so say its creators.

The SP1000 is very technical and the Empyrean will make you hear that. It reaches that holographic sensation that you would expect easily with an almost limitless sense of width. Unfortunately my version came without the case but who knows I might score one at a later stage.

In that regard I find the Empyrean not unlike most of Meze products in that they all seem to share a laid-back easy going demeanor which makes their delivery sound nearly effortless. With the Empyrean in single ended mode you get a very fast precise extended and clean sound.
